PAX 2017 Cosplay
Another year of shooting PAX Aus for The Iris, and the cosplay this year was bigger and better than ever. Here’s a selection of my favourites.
Travel: Paris and London 2016
I went to Europe last year on this really great holiday, and completely forgot to share my photos from the last part of the trip on here – Paris and London! I added a couple of days onto the end of my Germany trip to go back and visit these two cities (I was there in 2014), because I wanted to catch some of the things I missed the previous time – mainly the Catacombs in Paris (creepy underground skulls), and the Old Operating Theatre & Museum in London (creepy old medical stuff). Oz Comic-Con Melbourne 2017
Last weekend I was back shooting Oz Comic-Con for The Iris (you can check out their review here). Here’s some of my favourite cosplay shots from the event, including the fantastic entries for Oz Comic-Con’s Champions Of Cosplay. All photos were shot with my Nikon D810 & D800, with 14-24mm f2.8, 35mm f1.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 lenses.
Laneway Festival 2017
Back in January I photographed St Jerome’s Laneway Festival at the Footscray Community Arts Centre for my seventh year in a row. I was there to mainly shoot the event production for Architects Of Entertainment, but still made time to shoot some bands – some of the stand out performances were Camp Cope (my current favourite), Aurora, Gang Of Youths and Tame Impala. Looking back through all these shots now is making me long for the next Australian summer festival season to hit! Groovin The Moo Bendigo 2017
A few weeks ago I photographed Groovin The Moo festival in Bendigo for Music Junkee. It was my first time back shooting the festival since 2013 and the fashion has definitely changed since then. No more groups of friends in animal onesies, but plenty of groups of friends in minimal clothing, despite it being about 6 degrees by the time the festival ended. They had some great bands on the bill this year, including Against Me!, Amy Shark, George Maple and Violent Soho. Sugar Mountain Festival 2017
This year’s Sugar Mountain Festival at Victorian College Of The Arts was probably their best yet. The music was excellent, but this year they really stepped it up in the arts category with the stage design, art installations and Sensory Restaurant experience. Highlights Of 2016
It’s been a busy year! I photographed alot less gigs this year than usual, but still managed to find time to follow two of my favourite bands on tour – The Living End in June, and Garbage in December. I was hoping to finally hit the milestone of having shot 1000 bands, but only made it to 967 (since I started shooting gigs in 2008) – so I guess 2017 will be the year. Travel: Black Forest, Germany 2016
Next up on my Europe trip in May after Munich was exploring the Black Forest at the bottom of Germany for two and a half days. I’d read that Freiburg (a city in Baden-Württemberg) was the one of the best bases for exploring the Black Forest, so I booked an Air BnB there and booked two full day self guided tours through Black Forest Tours (which I’d highly recommend!). There’s sooo many different small cities and towns in the area, that doing one of these tours just seemed easier than trying to work out which to visit in such a …
Travel: Munich, Germany 2016
Next up on my Europe trip in May after Hamburg was Munich for 3 days. It’s a pretty cool city, very different to Berlin as well – it’s very easy to get around, much less spread out, and the food here was the best I found in Germany. Here’s my top 5 places to see if you’re visiting Munich: 1. Munich’s Neus Rathaus (town hall) – probably one of the coolest buildings I’ve ever seen, and it’s right in the centre of the city so you’re likely to pass it most days. 2. Travel: Hamburg, Germany 2016
Following on from visiting Berlin back in May, next up was a quick trip to Hamburg for 1.5 days. It’s only a two hour trip on the train, and I’d booked a really cute room in an apartment off Air Bnb that was basically the German replica of my house in Melbourne that was right across the road from the main train station. In comparison to Berlin, Hamburg seemed pretty tiny, and I felt like two days was probably enough.
