Highlights Of 2019

I’ve put together a collection of some of my favourite live music photos I took during 2019 (better late than never, right? thank you isolation). I hope you enjoy them. As always, thank you to the websites I shoot for for organising the photo access – Metal Obsession, Volume Media, and The AU Review.

Download Festival 2019

Looking back to Download Festival 2019 in Melbourne, this was such a fantastic day. It was Slayer’s second last Australian show for their farewell tour, my first time seeing the new lineup for Ghost (who I’ve become a big fan of recently), plus some other bands I’d been looking forward to photographing for a long time – Halestorm, Fever 333, Alice In Chains, New Years Day, Behemoth and Anthrax. Here’s some of my favourite photos from the day. Gallery shot for Metal Obsession.

Laneway Festival 2019

Like nearly every photographer around the world right now, I’m using the COVID-19 lockdown time to update my website. Even just making a start on the backlog of photos I’ve been meaning to share feels so good – but not as good as freedom will be once I can get out and photograph gigs in Melbourne again. Here’s some of my favourite shots from Laneway Festival 2019 – my ninth year photographing this excellent event. 2019 was Laneway’s first year of moving to a much larger venue, Footscray Park. The surrounding gardens were really beautiful, and had plenty of space for attendees to chill out …

Ziggy Alberts – Festival Hall, Melbourne 2019

In February I was invited to photograph Ziggy Alberts‘ sold out show at Festival Hall for the end of his Laps Around The Sun tour. Ziggy is an energetic and engaging performer, with his lyrics including powerful messages about life, love, and his passion for the environment. This was a truly enjoyable concert to photograph.

Exhibition: Satellite Gallery, Melbourne 2019

Last month I was involved in a group photography exhibition with some extremely talented music photographers that I’m lucky enough to shoot with in Melbourne. We each contributed four pieces to the exhibition, held at the Satellite Gallery above The Old Bar in Fitzroy. The contributing photographers were: Lewis Nixon Jaz Meadows Kylie Carns Nate Hill Cath Connell Below are the images I included in the show, some of my favourites at the moment from the past few years. Here are some photos from opening night:

Exhibition: Rone Empire 2019

Last week I visited Rone’s latest exhibition EMPIRE, in the Dandenong Ranges. It was so breathtakingly beautiful, so I wanted to share some of my favourite images here as a collection. EMPIRE is set amongst the decaying glory of a once-magnificent manor Burnham Beeches, in Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges. EMPIRE combines art, vision, sound, light, botanical design and scent to take audiences on a hauntingly immersive multi-sensory journey into a reimagined past of a faded icon. The Burnham project reimagines the spirit of one of Victoria’s landmark mansions, not accessed since the 1980s. Through this, viewers are invited to consider what remains – …

Good Things Festival Melbourne 2018

The first instalment of Australia’s newest rock festival Good Things kicked off in Melbourne in early December at the Flemington Racecourse (forever remembered as the home of Big Day Out – RIP). The line up of 90s/2000s rock bands (The Offspring, Stone Sour, The Used, Bullet For My Valentine, Tonight Alive) combined with the 38 degree weather really did feel like we’d been transported back to a smaller Big Day Out festival. The night before the festival I discovered via Instagram that one of my idols, Tony Kanal from No Doubt, was on tour with The Offspring. The opportunity to …

Download Festival Melbourne 2018

Australia’s first Download Festival back in March filled the hole that Soundwave Festival left behind when it ended in 2015 (or at least came close), with bands like Korn, Sabaton, Arch Enemy, Prophets Of Rage, and some unexpected ones like Limp Bizkit and Good Charlotte. It felt more like 1998 than 2018. Shot for Metal Obsession, here’s some of my favourite photos, and you can view more over on my Flickr.

Splendour In The Grass 2017

Thanks to Architects Of Entertainment, I had the opportunity to photograph my first Splendour In The Grass Festival in Byron Bay last July. After years of admiring everyone else’s photos on Facebook and Instagram of the picturesque festival and the ridiculous list of bands to see over three days, I finally made it. Splendour reminded me of a blend of Harvest Festival (for the arts) and Falls Festival (for the laid-back attitude), with a dash of Laneway (for the fashion). Great bands, chilled out vibe, beautiful venue, great people – Splendour In The Grass really does have it all. My …

Garbage Australian Tour 2016

It’s been one year since I was following one of my favourite bands Garbage on tour for the second time. The first time was in 2013 (you can read about it here), and it was on of the best weeks of my life. Their ‘Strange Little Birds’ tour here last year falls into the same category for me. I managed to get photo passes for three out of the four shows I was attending, which I was pretty happy with. They were touring for A Day On The Green around Australia with The Temper Trap, The Preatures, Tash Sultana and …
