Good Things Festival Melbourne 2018

The first instalment of Australia’s newest rock festival Good Things kicked off in Melbourne in early December at the Flemington Racecourse (forever remembered as the home of Big Day Out – RIP). The line up of 90s/2000s rock bands (The Offspring, Stone Sour, The Used, Bullet For My Valentine, Tonight Alive) combined with the 38 degree weather really did feel like we’d been transported back to a smaller Big Day Out festival. The night before the festival I discovered via Instagram that one of my idols, Tony Kanal from No Doubt, was on tour with The Offspring. The opportunity to …

Groovin The Moo Bendigo 2017

A few weeks ago I photographed Groovin The Moo festival in Bendigo for Music Junkee. It was my first time back shooting the festival since 2013 and the fashion has definitely changed since then. No more groups of friends in animal onesies, but plenty of groups of friends in minimal clothing, despite it being about 6 degrees by the time the festival ended. They had some great bands on the bill this year, including Against Me!, Amy Shark, George Maple and Violent Soho. All photos were shot with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 or 70-200mm f2.8 lenses. If …

Highlights Of 2016

It’s been a busy year! I photographed alot less gigs this year than usual, but still managed to find time to follow two of my favourite bands on tour – The Living End in June, and Garbage in December. I was hoping to finally hit the milestone of having shot 1000 bands, but only made it to 967 (since I started shooting gigs in 2008) – so I guess 2017 will be the year. I tried to restrain myself from just filling this blog post with Garbage and The Living End, but here’s some of my favourite shots from this …

Travel: Munich, Germany 2016

Next up on my Europe trip in May after Hamburg was Munich for 3 days. It’s a pretty cool city, very different to Berlin as well – it’s very easy to get around, much less spread out, and the food here was the best I found in Germany. Here’s my top 5 places to see if you’re visiting Munich: 1. Munich’s Neus Rathaus (town hall) – probably one of the coolest buildings I’ve ever seen, and it’s right in the centre of the city so you’re likely to pass it most days. 2. View of Munich from St Peter’s Church …

Travel: Hamburg, Germany 2016

Following on from visiting Berlin back in May, next up was a quick trip to Hamburg for 1.5 days. It’s only a two hour trip on the train, and I’d booked a really cute room in an apartment off Air Bnb that was basically the German replica of my house in Melbourne that was right across the road from the main train station. In comparison to Berlin, Hamburg seemed pretty tiny, and I felt like two days was probably enough. The Warehouse District was easily my favourite to photograph, and I ticked ‘something creepy’ off the list by checking out …

Travel: Berlin, Germany 2016

Back in April/May I visited Germany for the first time, and visited four cities in two weeks while I was there. Berlin was first up, where I spent six days – it was such an interesting city, every neighbourhood had a different vibe and style to it, completely different to Melbourne. It didn’t even matter that I couldn’t speak German, almost everyone there spoke English so it was easy! All photos were shot with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 35mm f1.8 or Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 lens. If you’d like to see more you can view them on my Flickr.   …

Sugar Mountain Festival 2016

Last week I photographed Sugar Mountain Festival, a fantastic music and art festival held at the Victorian College Of The Arts in Melbourne. Not only do they have a great selection of musicians each year, but my favourite part of the festival is the art installations they have throughout the venue, all of which are really impressive. Here are some of my favourite shots from the day, and you can view more on my Flickr. All images were shot on my Nikon D800.

Australian Tattoo And Body Art Expo 2015

Last week I photographed the Australian Tattoo and Body Art Expo in Melbourne. It was my first time shooting a tattoo event – I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a lot of fun wandering around and checking out all the tattoo artists and their work, they were all so talented. Here’s a few of my favourite shots. All images were shot on my Nikon D800, and you can view more over on my Flickr.

Veri Live: Snap Feature

I was recently contacted by Veri Live magazine to be ‘Snap’ featured photographer for their final print issue out this month. I was asked to submit ten music related images, with the only rules being that they must be in black and white and cannot be cropped. My copy arrived on Friday and I couldn’t be happier with the final product – it looks fantastic and and the packaging is really special. I would like to thank Zo for selecting me to be featured – I really admire her talent, hard work and dedication to Veri Live and live music …

Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015

41 bands, 5 stages, 2 days, 1 storm and 1 exhausted (but happy) photographer pretty much sums up Soundwave Festival Sydney 2015 for me. A few months back I posted a blog with my favourite shots from Soundwave Festival Melbourne, now it’s Sydney’s turn. Soundwave Festival week is always a massive one for any music photographer, but it’s so much fun – not just shooting all the bands, but running into other photographers, meeting the fans and getting to discover so many other great bands that I didn’t already know. It’s always so hard to decide which bands to shoot …
