The first instalment of Australia’s newest rock festival Good Things kicked off in Melbourne in early December at the Flemington Racecourse (forever remembered as the home of Big Day Out – RIP). The line up of 90s/2000s rock bands (The Offspring, Stone Sour, The Used, Bullet For My Valentine, Tonight Alive) combined with the 38 degree weather really did feel like we’d been transported back to a smaller Big Day Out festival.
The night before the festival I discovered via Instagram that one of my idols, Tony Kanal from No Doubt, was on tour with The Offspring. The opportunity to see Tony live and photograph him again was so unexpected and exciting, so no surprise here, I spent most of The Offspring’s set photographing him. I had decided to put out my Tragic Kingdom shirt to wear the next day in the hope that Tony would notice it when I was shooting and he did immediately and gave me a huge smile – day made.
Here’s some of my favourite photos from the day, and you can view more over on my Flickr. All images were shot on my Nikon D810 & D800.
